The book and the video feature data from the Endangered Languages Project that lists over 3000 languages from all over the world in various states of endangerment.
The data selected for the book concerns indigenous languages from Russia, where the predominance of Russian language puts indigenous languages on the fast track to extinction. With each generation, there are less and less of the native speakers, with some languages already being considered dormant. Many factors contribute to this trend, including political and historical circumstances.
The images in this book are visualized for each language using the ELP dataset and Processing. The accompanying video is a compilation of various footage found online, in which some of the languages are spoken - to showcase these languages as the monumental parts of cultures they are representing.
