face and land delves into the photographic archives from ethnographic expeditions to Siberia that aimed at documenting the lives of indigenous peoples.
Using photography taken of Sakha and Evenk communities together with poetry, the work explores one’s relationship to the past and the reflections that come from seeing and observing the images of people that came before you.
face and land offers the space where the gaze of an outsider vs. insider affects the perception and possible context of the work, creating a moment of relation and remembrance.
