garden of glyphs
De Groene Bedstee is a tunnel made out of beech trees.

It is located in the Mariendaal, a country estate in between Oosterbeek and Arnhem.

Groene Bedstee spreads out around 300 meters long, and exists currently as a spot associated with love and romance - due to the secretive nature of the place which turned it into a date spot.

garden of glyphs is a project dedicated to the place and its history, and includes a typeface inspired by arborglyphs, as well as the passing of time.

The speculative stories about the people leaving tree carvings are engraved on wooden signs with the typeface that changes and grows over time.

Plywood, laser engraving.

ojuu
Visual research into Sakha patterns/ornaments using linocut printing technique.

Sakha patterns and ornaments are monumental visual manifestations of Sakha culture. Through them, the values and worldview of Sakha people are shown - the admiration and appreciation of nature, the importance of sun in our spiritual beliefs, and love and care for plants and animals.

Inspired by these ornaments and the linocut prints made by Sakha artists in the 1960s, ojuu is an attempt to merge the two together, with a system of printing blocks, where layering and using different colors of ink can create unique combinations.

The final print is made using 12 separate lino blocks that use common motifs inspired by nature - sun, lyre, plants and flowers. The layout of the print is inspired by olbokh, the traditional Sakha quilting technique of making seating cushions and blankets.
